How-to: Oilplaning Facial

Oilplaning (dermaplaning with oil) or a.k.a. Dermaplaning, is a popular skincare treatment that involves using a facial razor to gently exfoliate the outer layer of skin, removing dead skin cells and peach fuzz. This process leaves the skin looking smoother, brighter, and more radiant. If you're interested in trying oilplaning at home, follow these expert tips to achieve professional results.

Prepare Your Skin

Start by cleansing your face to remove any makeup, dirt, and oil. Now it's time to apply a generous amount of face oil. We use about 10 drops of our ICONOLAB Renewal Face Oil.

Choose the Right Tools

You will need a dermaplaning razor. This one here is the one we use and recommend. This will ensure precise exfoliation and minimize the risk of irritation. Avoid using regular razors, as they are not designed for this purpose.

Technique is Key

Hold the dermaplaning razor at a 45-degree angle and gently glide it over your skin in short, downward strokes. Avoid going over the same area multiple times to prevent irritation. Take your time and work methodically across your face. And don't worry, your facial hair won't grow back thicker and darker.

Post-Oilplaning Care

After oilplaning, apply a soothing water mist, and more Renewal Face Oil to hydrate and protect your skin. Avoid using harsh exfoliants or active ingredients for the next day or two to prevent irritation. You can oilplane once every 1-2 weeks if you like. Remember to clean your dermaplaning tool thoroughly after each use.

Benefits of Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning not only exfoliates the skin but also helps to improve the absorption of skincare products, leaving your complexion looking smoother and more even. It can also help makeup go on more smoothly for a flawless finish.

Always prioritize skin health and consult with a dermatologist if you have any questions or concerns about incorporating oilplaning into your skincare routine.
